“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.  Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.”

I read that quote written by Marianne Williamson over 20 years ago.   I was a lawyer when I read it and though I was proud of my profession and its status, I was not proud of me.  I accepted other people’s perceptions of my limitations, which I now understand were born of theirs.  I was so reactive.  I did not understand that I had choices.  Everything felt as if it were happening to me.  I couldn’t believe that I would have chosen the life I was living if I understood that I had a choice to live.

But I was really stubborn or prideful or both.  I confused my brain for my God, which really interfered with a true understanding of both me and God.  My brain kept me tired and afraid, most of the time; but performing, ah yes, performing – I worked hard, received awards, won cases, but I was afraid of winning too much, losing too big, not being liked, being taken advantage of, judging everything and being judged.  Frankly, just living with my thoughts was a full time job.  I did not even know how I worked or played or loved.  I probably did not do any of them to the best of my ability.

Then, I began to read certain books and attend self development seminars.  I was embarrassed to admit that the books gave me comfort and the seminars gave me clarity.  I was a lawyer; shouldn’t I know how to run my life, when I am hired to help others run theirs?  Luckily for me, there weren’t many lawyers or people I knew attending the seminars.  I could be anonymous.

The books I began to read frightened me, because my trite thoughts did not merit a hard-back book; my life was a paperback book.   I began to study other religions and learned to meditate, practice yoga, and eat differently.  I drank wheatgrass (still don’t like it).  I studied biographies of great people.   I forgave my family and myself.  I embraced abundance and took risks.  I spent money on myself.  That investment has returned a happy person with several successful businesses, a fulfilling life, a loving husband, a thriving legal practice and a supportive family.

Over these past 20 years, I have learned a lot; much of it through unnecessary suffering, though now I see that it had a profound purpose.  The suffering compelled me to learn.  I am a learning enthusiast and I invite you to be one too.  Everyday, I am sponge for new thought, innovation, funny thought, happy thought, deep thought and sometimes even for kicks - shallow thought.  But these new thoughts are rooted to my soul, to my passion and to my power, because now I have learned how to teach what I have learned.

Beyond Measure is the culmination of 20 years of study and trial and error.  I have merged business tactics, cutting-edge philosophies and proven strategies into a web-based business designed to assist lawyers, business people and entrepreneurs to triumph.  I have applied these strategies to assist me and countless others.  They work.
Beyond Measure cuts these strategies into bite-sized elements to be easily understood.   Understanding these strategies makes it easier to create new habits.  Success is a habit.  Successful people study and know themselves, plan, communicate effectively, know what they want, have vision, are eager to learn, persistent, driven, visual, auditory, optimistic and funny.   All of these so-called personality traits are habits.  Through a web-based encyclopedia for success and networking, seminars, podcasts and blogs, Beyond Measure teaches its participants to:

• Set and hit written goals
• Create and calendar successful habits
• Create a fitness plan that works
• Integrate lessons from extraordinary people
